LA GRANGE - Thirteen-year La Grange High School head football coach and athletic director Matt Kates resigned last week.
Kates made the playoffs a number of times with an overall record of 83-61 and has coached players such as current Baltimore Ravens running back J.K. Dobbins, 2023 Texas A&M football commit Bravion Rogers, and 2023 Baylor football commit Jaren Woods.
Kates was a coach who treated his players like his own sons and made all of his colleagues feel like family. If you weren’t his colleague and you had the chance to interact with him, he made you feel welcome and like a friend.
