FLATONIA — The Flatonia Bulldogs superintendent Chris Sodek and his committee narrowed his list of athletic director and head football coach candidates down to six people after former athletic director and head football coach Chris Freytag departed a few months ago. Sodek and his committee ended up choosing Brent Mascheck to take on the new role. “We just felt best about Coach Mascheck’s past history,” said Sodek.
Mascheck grew up right down the road in Shiner and has been the athletic director at West Columbia, Tidehaven, and Columbus high schools.
“The experiences that he’s dealt with, his success at a few other programs, and just him being a total program guy regardless of what sport we’re talking about, or whether it’s girls or boys athletics in general, he just was the best fit as far as someone that we were looking forward to head our total program. We’re very excited to have him. He is a very quality person. Quality family that’s gonna be able to come in here and continue some of the stuff we’ve been able to build here at Flatonia.”
