High-speed chase ends in handcuffed suspect

COLUMBUS — DPS Trooper Grillett, stationed out of Fayette County, initially attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation when the sports vehicle the suspect was driving tried to outrun him on Nov. 28 around noon on Interstate 10 in Fayette County. DPS lost sight of the vehicle traveling more than 120 miles per hour.

Trooper Grillett decided to check out the backroads and located the suspect vehicle on Farm-to-Market Road 2434 near Weimar. The chase picked back up with the suspect vehicle running toward Columbus on FM 2434. Responding law enforcement, including the Colorado County Sheriff's Office, Columbus PD, and other DPS officers, waited for

the vehicle to approach them near I-10 on FM 2434. Spikes were laid out on a curve near I-10 in an attempt to stop the vehicle. The driver swerved around the spikes but lost control around the curve and spun out into the ditch, broke through the fencing and hit a pole. The thrilling pursuit unfolded as the suspect dashed into the woods, prompt - ing law enforcement to establish a pe - rimeter and swiftly block any escape routes.
