GOLIAD — The Fayetteville High School boy’s basketball team had a match with Lasara High School Feb. 21 at Goliad High School in Goliad and won by a wide margin with a final score of 100-42.
The offense and shot mak- ing was flowing for the Lions throughout the entire game and it posed to be too much for a good Lasara team that proved they can score the basketball.
“We just tried to play at the pace we normally play at,” said Fayetteville head boy’s basketball coach Jake Diggs. “Play some good defense and then take the open shot on offense. The shots were falling.”
Lions junior point guard Mason Fenhaus controlled the game in all phases by making the right plays to run the offense, scoring the ball, and making sure the team secured the win with good decision making.
“We just work hard,” Fenhaus said on their success. “Go to morning workouts every morning, we work hard in practice, we had good chemistry and we just try our best to win.”
A close beginning in the first quarter led to extending their lead with three baskets in a row end the quarter with two layups in a row from senior Easton Jaeger to go along with a steal and an and one basket from senior Chance Konvicka to take a 23-12 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The Lions gained an even bigger lead in the second quarter with their consistent offense and hit two threes and a layup to close out the half with a 39-21 advantage.
Fayetteville really took over in the third quarter with their high-powered offense and scored all kinds of outside shots as well as layups to take total control of the contest and surge out to a 69-32 lead at the end of the third quarter.
The shot making and close range baskets continued in the fourth quarter as Fayetteville cruised to victory with a fluent offensive showing at 100-42.
