FLATONIA — The Flatonia High School softball team went down to Shiner High School Feb. 25 at Lady Bulldogs Field in Flatonia by a final score of 17-0. This was a hitting fest from Shiner throughout the entire three innings and Flatonia wasn’t able to answer with their bats.
“They’re a good hitting team,” said Flatonia head softball coach Shane Walker. “They’ve always been. Keller does a really good job of getting his girls prepared to hit the ball. On us, we gotta catch fly balls. We got to make the routine plays and help our pitcher out of jams, which I feel like we didn’t do tonight. Just got to make the play.”
Flatonia sophomore pitcher Jalee Trussel took the circle for Flatonia and struck out a Shiner batter for the first out of the first inning. Shiner proceeded to hit a double on a shot to left field and a grounder to second that resulted in an error to take a 3-0 lead going into the bottom of the first inning.
In the Lady Comanches next at bat, they hit another double, a grounder to reach base on an error, a shot to right field, a tworun homer, and one more double down the right field line to make it 10-0 going into the bottom of second inning.
Shiner kept the bat on the ball in their next at bat with a bullet to right field, a ball that was reached safely on an error, a triple to the left field wall, a base hit up the middle, and a double to left center to take a 17-0 advantage going into the bottom of the third inning.
Two strikeouts and a fly out from Flatonia ended the game by mercy rule as Shiner went on to take the game 17-0.
