Tons of area athletes head to state track per usual

For many years now, we’ve had a lot of area athletes qualify for state track at University of Texas in Austin. This year, the case remains the same as we’ll have another great showing making their way to Mike A. Myers Stadium to perform on the biggest stage. Athletes from Class 1A include the girls 4x100 relay team from Fayetteville (Maycee Miller, Aubree Graeter, Cambree Denham (also competing in girls high jump and pole vault), Olivia Dominey, Lainey Gromaski, and Saige Gasaway), Lawson Fritsch (Fayetteville, boys 400 meter dash, pole vault), Jack Schley (Fayetteville, boys long jump, triple jump) and Cole Jurecka (Fayetteville, boys 110 hurdles).

In 2A, the two lone athletes are Zachary Charanza (Flatonia, boys discus, shot put) and Katharina Chalouopka (Weimar, girls pole vault).

For 3A, we have Jael Valles Serrano (Rice, boys 800 run), Sophia Vykukal (Brazos, girls high jump), and Robert Myers (Rice, boys shot put).

Rounding out the list in 4A is the Sealy boys 4x100 team, which consists of Logan Newsome, Bryce Mack, Noah Washington, Davian Thomas, Ivan Cadenas, and Hudson Hauerland. Also performing in the boys 4x100 is Bellville with Brayden Calvin, William Grebe, Daylon Murray, Travis Turner, and Wyatt Stallings. Sealy is also competing in the boys 4x200 event with the same roster, but just adding Kallan Hendry. We then have Steven Schwartz (Sealy, boys 300 meter hurdles) Darius Hutchinson (Bellville, boys triple jump) and Cordale Knapik (La Grange, boys pole vault) to cap off the state track list.

The tournament starts Thursday, May 1 and goes until Saturday, May 3. Each day, the tournament starts 9 a.m. with the 3200 meter run, then the field events, then the running events. Classes 3 and 4A compete on Thursday, 2A and 5A on Friday, then 1A and 6A on Saturday.
