SCHULENBURG — Brave souls registered for the 5K on April 5, determined that a few extra miles that morning might earn them a few extra samples that afternoon at the festivities in downtown Schulenburg.
Held in conjunction with the Sausagefest, the 5K was hosted by the Alliance for College & Career Student Success (ACCSS), which is a collaborative program involving Blinn College District and eight regional independent school districts: Flatonia, Schulenburg, Weimar, Columbus and Fayetteville. Now in their expansion phase, ACCSS has added Moulton, Dime Box and Sealy ISD. Believing that rural youth deserve the opportunity to dream big and pursue their goals, the ACCSS program works to ensure that every student, regardless of background, has access to the opportunities needed in the pursuit of their educational and career aspirations by providing academic and career resources, guidance, and comprehensive support essential for students to attain post-secondary credits or workforce career credentials.
The overall winner and fastest male was Laine Brown, who completed the 5K in 19:10.38.
The fastest female was 10-yearold Emma Zweschper, who crossed the finish line in 24:20.141. The complete results and finish line pictures may be found at https:// sausagefest5k.itsyourrace.com/ Results.aspx?id=16164 or on the ACCSS Facebook page @ACCSS5.
