WHARTON – Wharton County Junior College's Cosme tology program prepares graduates for a variety of cosmetology- related careers by offering courses in nail technology, skin care, hair design and styling, hair cutting, coloring and high - lighting. Graduates can expect to learn these skills in 11 months and, after earning their Level I certificate, will be eligible to take state licensing examinations. Cosmetology program Di - rector Jacqueline Kuehn has witnessed a substantial amount of evolution in curriculum since she began teaching at WCJC 35 years ago.
“The program has changed tremendously over the years. As trends and technology change, we have to change with it," Kuehn said. The Cosmetology program is offered at both the Wharton and Richmond campuses. Students gain experience through a host of technological advancements and techniques all taught by the col- lege's highly experienced staff.
Members of the community are also encouraged to make appointments with cosmetology students for haircuts, coloring, manicures and other salon services. Such services provide students with real-world work experience. "The job outlook is great," she
said. “Salons are looking for mo- tivated, competent, professional stylists with a good work ethic.
Our graduates are employed all over the state of Texas. Whether they choose to stay local or ex - plore other locations, salons are
always looking for great employees.”
