John Everett Chapter NSDAR Scholarship winners

The John Everett Chapter, Nation - al Society Daughters of the American Revolution of Columbus, has selected its scholarship winners for 2025. Each year, the chapter gives scholarships to three outstanding Colorado County stu- dents. This year winners are: Hannah Kunschick of Columbus High School, Lawson Floyd of Rice High School, and Brandon Luckey of Weimar High School.

Kunschick, a senior at Columbus

High School, is the daughter of Kara and Dennis Kunschick of Columbus.

She plans to attend Blinn College this

fall to begin her studies in nursing. The next step of her plan will be to enter the Texas A&M ASCEND program to earn her Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Kunschick’s goal is to become a Pediat- ric Nurse Practitioner specializing in en -

docrine issues. Of her future work with children, Kunschick says, "At the end of my career, my greatest hope is to look back and see not just success, but sig- nificance – a life of work that reflects a calling far greater than myself."

Floyd, a senior at Rice CISD, is the son of Tracy and Lisa Floyd of Gar wood. His career journey will start at Wharton Junior College and continue at Texas A&M where he intends to earn his bachelor's in Rangeland, Wildlife and Fishery Sciences. Lawson's career goal is to be a game warden. He said, “I have always loved hunting, fishing, wildlife,

and just spending as much time as pos- sible in the outdoors. I feel that my love for our wildlife will make me an asset in this profession." Luckey, a senior with Weimar High School, is the son of Nancy Hopkins of Weimar. He has been accepted to Texas State Technical College in Rosenberg where he will study Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning and/or Instrumen- tation. Luckey aspires to one day work for Leon's Electric Plumbing or LCRA (Lower Colorado River Authority). He said, "My passion for the outdoors, hunt - ing, and fishing has shaped my desire to protect the environment and serve my community. These interests have given me the opportunity to learn, grow, and contribute. I look forward to continuing to make a positive impact on both the natural world and the people around me.”
