Four local Columbus students were recognized as winners in the Republic of Texas Museum (ROTM) Art Contest. Earlier this year in January, over 100 Columbus students entered this contest, sponsored by the local chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas (DRT). This chapter, Dilue Rose Harris, recognized local winners back in February, but all artwork was forwarded to the DRT’s ROTM in Austin for further evaluation. That committee judged entries from throughout the state, and categorized winners by district and grade level.
District VIII winners, made up of 16 chapters, at the Elemen- tary Level, are first place-Layna Tello (Mr. Vickers, Columbus Elementary), second place – Bailyn Blount (Ms. Mraz, Columbus Elementary), and third place – Beau Neal (Ms. Hajovsky, St. Anthony’s Catholic School).
Additionally, Weston Dyer was awarded first place at the Ju nior High Level.
His artwork was submitted through the Live Oak Art Center After School Program taught by Ms. Hickman. Each winner received a monetary award and letter of recognition.
