Saturdays On The Square to hold last spring market

COLUMBUS — Catch the last Saturdays On The Square for the spring on May 10 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Colorado County Courthouse square in Columbus. The Columbus Farmers Market was first established in 2014.

Vendors still gather on the corner of Walnut, Travis and Milam streets across from the Colorado County Courthouse. Vendors come from all aspects of life … local farmers, gardeners, home-baked goods, pickles, salsas, jellies, candles, plants, pottery, natural oils, handmade crafts, jewelry, handmade soaps, cobblers, pies, breads, eggs and local live music.

Saturdays On The Square was established to provide a weekly market to encourage residents and out-of-town visitors to visit the courthouse square and shop with the local merchants. The second Saturday of each month, March-December, for local small farmers to come and sell their produce twice a month instead of only one Saturday a month, that being the last Saturday of each month.

Saturdays On The Square’s mission is to expose to the youth and students of the community to the importance of running a small independent business (raising chickens and ducks, lemonade stand, metal art, bird houses, plants, baked goods, handmade items, woodworking, jewelry design).

Individuals providing community service hours and giving back to our community are the backbone of establishing stability in the local community. SOTS volunteers and vendors work together and help each other on an as-needed basis without financial compensation. SOTS volunteers are expected to set an example for the upcoming junior vendors to carry the true meaning of community service. We want to keep our community moving forward. It starts with the residents to set the example. This is a win for everyone.

The Columbus Country Market is a Columbus Chamber of Commerce-sponsored event and is not connected to Saturdays On The Square and continues meeting on the last Saturday of each month.
