The proposed Colorado County Emergency Services District was voted overwhelming against during the May 3 election.
The 827 against the 292 for votes in the unincorporated areas underlie the belief that voters were not convinced enough that the area needed an ESD.
Many town hall meetings failed to get across to the public the potential need for an ESD for building up fire de partments that are already struggling to make ends meet through what the city and county provide and the annual fundraisers.
The public was shy about yet an- other tax hike and the lack of confident answers centering around non-answers about “you have to pass it to see what’s in it,” where the ESD supporters could not give definitive answers to serious ques tions until an ESD board was formed. But that is the law as it is written.
