Clay Ferguson has been hired as the new athletic director and head football coach at Schulenburg High School and took over duties on March 17.
Ferguson came from Elgin High School as a defensive coordinator and will take over a Schulenburg football program that has reached the playoffs each of the last two years.
“The thing that drew me to this job was the family atmosphere,” said Ferguson. “Whenever you drive around town, you see the flags in the windows. The sup port that you can see and feel whenever you’re in town. That’s something that drew me, my wife, and our family to here. That was one one of the main reasons we wanted to be a part of this.”
Ferguson comes to a Schulenburg football program that has struggled in the past, but had a lot of recent success before taking the job.
“Football in general, the thing that we’re gonna bring is a sense of unity,” Ferguson continued. “We want everybody to be on the same page. If it’s boys athletics, girls athletics, it doesn’t matter. We’re all one team and one family and we’re gonna try to make this the best athletic program that we can be.”
Ferguson also comes into Schulenburg with a bunch of athletic programs that have had success at the highest level and it seems he has the drive and passion in order to keep the Shorthorns playing at an elite level.
