Flatonia softball downed by Ganado

COLUMBUS — Flatonia softball’s great season came to an end May 16 at Columbus High School softball field as they

were defeated by Ganado High School with a final score of 5-1.

Flatonia took an early lead before Ganado went on a rally about midway through the game and held tough on defense for the rest of the game to earn the win.

“The season in general was a great season,” said Flatonia head softball coach Shane Walker. “I think it’s a testament to the girls buying into the program. I’m losing six seniors that’s gonna be hard to replace, but I got a good group coming back. That’s a really good ball club that we faced tonight. They hit the ball well, they make plays on defense, it’s a good team. I give my hats off to my girls because they just fought and never gave up and that’s the way the playoffs have been, just fighting and never giving up."

The Lady Bulldogs tallied their first run in their first at bat with two base hits, one being from Jalee Trussell, and a steal home after a throw to second on a steal attempt.

After solid defense from both teams for a good portion of the game, Ganado put up a huge inning in the top of the fourth inning with a double, a run on a fielder's choice, a base hit, and a triple to take a 4-1 lead.

The Lady Indians didn’t score their final run until the top of the seventh inning when they recorded a double and a base hit to left field for a 5-1 scoreboard.

Flatonia started a little rally in the bottom of the seventh with a walk, a botched grounder, and a pass ball, then Ganado was able to wrap up the game with a ground out, a fly out, and a pop out to win it 5-1.
