BASTROP — The Flatonia High School baseball team took down Burton High School May 15 at Bastrop High School Field in Bastrop by a final score of 6-4.
A back and forth game for it’s majority led to the Bulldogs getting some big hits down the stretch to ultimately seal the victory.
“We started good, got a cou- ple runs in the first," said Flato nia head baseball coach Shawn Bruns.
“Built a little lead up, then they inched back with three in the bottom of the third or fourth. We were able to answer back and get the lead back and that was big for our pitchers and our defense to get that lead back there. Baseball’s a crazy sport. The momentum swings back and forth, you got to get a hold of it when you can and you got to keep it as long as you can and try not to give it away. I thought these guys battled hard throughout the seven innings. Every win the playoffs is a big win.”
Bulldogs pitcher Titan Targac pitched most of the game and also came up with some big hits in key moments.
“We need to clean up a few things,” Targac said. “I think we have a very good chance at doing something we need to do. I believe that as long we stay together as one and keep doing what we’re supposed to be doing, we’ll be good.”
Flatonia notched two runs in the top of the first inning on a wild throw to second on a steal, then a triple to right field.
The Bulldogs scored again in the third inning on a base hit to left from Henri Vincik, which was followed by Burton answering back in the bottom of the fourth inning with three runs on two infield hits, a sacrifice bunt, a base hit, and a wild throw after a grounder to the pitcher to tie the game.
Targac went on to nail a triple to the right field wall to give his team the lead back after a walk from Beck Zimmerman.
Vincik recorded another hit to centerfield to make it 5-3 in the same inning and a botched ball after a grounder to second scored Flatonia's final run.
Burton threatened in the bottom of the seventh inning with a walk and a wild throw that scored a run, but Flatonia was able to shut it down with a strike- out, a fielder's choice out, and a ground out to secure the win.
Game two saw the Dogs struggle defensively and commit ten errors and give up fourteen runs being defeated by Burton with a final score of 14-4.
Targac had two hits with two RBI. Zimmerman hit a RBI triple. Yandel Manzano ripped a double.
Singles were also hit by Bowling, Ramirez and Kessler.
Game three ended May 16 with a loss to the Bulldogs with a final score of 7-2.
The Bulldogs finished the 2025 season with a 19-11-1 over all record.
