SEALY — The Austin County Retired Teachers Association met on May 8 at Tony’s Restaurant in Sealy.
President Janet Montgomery opened the business meeting.
Shirley Thompson gave the invocation, and members said the pledges to the flags.
Minutes from the previous meeting and the treasurer’s report were approved.
Carolyn Golan reported that ACRTA would be awarding college scholarships to Tylin Jackson and Abigail Keen.
Don Allphin gave the Legislative report, and members were encouraged to read The Voice and to check Tim Lee’s videos for more information.
Montgomery subsequently reported on Teachers Day at the Capitol.
The program on “Cultivating Butterflies" was presented by Dr.
Nicole Poenitzsch, Bellville ISD superintendent.
She used the growth of a caterpillar into a butterfly as an analogy for the growth of students into adulthood.
With the right opportunity and motivation to learn, all students can do great things.
