Schulenburg baseball defeated by Centerville in game two of state semis

CALDWELL — The Schulenburg High School baseball team lost to Centerville High School May 30 at Caldwell High School Baseball Field by a final score of 4-0. One big inning from Centerville about midway through the game led them to victory as Schulenburg struggled to get the bats going for it’s entirety.

“We’re just gonna go back to what we’ve been doing,” said Schulenburg head baseball coach Isaiah Barrera.

“Today was a little bit off schedule for what we did because we got home late last night, but we’re gonna go back to work tomorrow. The kid tossed a good game. We weren’t able to get on him. We had a bunch of pop flies and that’s something that’s gotta stop. You got to get deep into the pitching staff, but tomorrow’s a new day and that’s baseball, man.”

A scoreless first two and a half innings led to Centerville making it a 4-0 game after a lot of quiet at bats from the Shorthorns with four base hits and a double to right field in the bottom of the third inning.

These are the only runs they scored throughout the game and Schulenburg was able to put a couple runners on base in their fi nal at bat with a walk from Zane Brenek and a botched fly ball, but two fly outs and a strikeout end ed the game in the bottom of the seventh as Centerville was able to close it out with a final score of 4-0.
