Fayette County one of three tentatively approved for Texas Department of Agriculture’s Community Block Development grant

Fayette County was one of three applicants in the region to be tentatively approved for funding through the Texas Department of Agriculture’s Community Block Development grant (CDBG). The application was to se-

cure funding for fire res

cue/safety equipment for each department in the County.

“The total grant award is $750,000; of that there is a match which the County will cover and consulting fees for administering the grant on the county’s behalf.

CDBG grants require the administrator be

CDBG certified. The

funding would allow the county to purchase seven self –contained breathing apparatus for each department, which is a $63,000 savings to the departments,” said Angela Hahn, emergency management coordinator for the county, “Like all CDBG programs, this grant requires that 51% of the residents

benefitting from the pro

gram are considered low-to-moderate income. To meet that requirement, we are asking the vol-

unteer fire departments

to either hand delivery a survey or mail it to addresses that have been randomly selected by the consultant. There are four questions that need to be answered: the address, a phone number, the number of people who live in the home fulltime and the household income. Names are not necessary. It is very important that anyone who receives the survey complete it and return it by June 20. If we don’t get an 80% response rate, we will no longer be eligible for the funding,” Hahn said.

“I can’t stress enough the importance of getting these surveys out and re- turned. Our volunteer fire departments serve this county greatly and any time we can help support them we will. We ask that the residents in the county do the same. Thank you,” County Judge Dan Mueller said.

The surveys can be emailed to Angela Hahn at [email protected]. tx.us, mailed to her at 1721 N. Von Minden, returned to a volunteer firefighter, or brought by EMS Station 1 at 1721 N. Von Minden, La Grange, TX 78945.
