Columbus Garden Club receives proclamations

COLUMBUS — Columbus Garden Club (CGC) members attended recent Colorado County Commissioners Court and Columbus City Countil meetings on May 27, where proclamations were signed recognizing the week of June 1-7 as National Garden Week.

This is a week-long event sponsored by National Garden Clubs Inc encouraging community involvement, pride and outreach through gardening.

Locally, the garden club meets during that week to make flower arrangements that will be delivered to county and city of- fices, local nursing homes, assist ed living facilities, the Columbus hospital, the Columbus Chamber of Commerce, newspapers, radio station, and members of the community. The club promotes com- munity beautification through maintaining gardens around the community, encouraging homeowners to landscape their yards and encouraging businesses to beautify their business or store fronts with gardens and planters. Each month a Yard of the Month Award and a Community Beauti- fication Award is presented.

The CGC motto is: A More Beautiful Community.

Garden Club members Velma Harrington, Wanda Anglin, President Regena Williamson, Mayor Lori An Gobert, Ann Pavliska and Patti Schindler attended a recent Columbus City Council meeting where proclamations were signed recognizing the week of June 1-7 as National Garden Week.
