Crane accident triggers water rescue on I-10

COLUMBUS — The Columbus Volumteer Fire Department responded to a crane rollover at approximately 3 a.m. on May 30 that had the victim trapped beneath the equipment in several feet of water. The accident happened on Interstate 10 westbound in a construction zone near the 695 mile marker.

According to the Columbus VFD, the responders found a trackhoe and a traf- fic control barrier had rolled off a bridge into nearby water. Firefighters conduct ed a water rescue extraction with the patient suffering severe leg injuries. The patient was airlifted to a trauma center for advanced medical care.

The rescue was complex and hazardous under extreme circumstances. No other injuries were reported.
