Huge turnout to celebrate Seniors Together

COLUMBUS — It was all fun and games, barbecue, and socializing on June 18 at the Se- niors Together-Columbus gather ing at the Lighthouse Fellowship Hall in Columbus.

Over 100 seniors and 13 volunteers showed up to help Se- niors Together, a program initia - tive of Three Crosses Ministries, celebrate going into its third year

at the Columbus location.

Three Crosses Ministries, a nonprofit organization, was founded by John and Dianne Ilse Jones of Columbus in 2014. Over the years, Three Crosses Minis tries sought out opportunities to be a blessing to people in need, when one day it occurred to them that people over a certain age do not have a place to socialize on a frequent basis, aside from their respective churches.

Loneliness, depression, isolation, abuse of medications, physical and spiritual decline can affect seniors who are no longer actively engaged in their community.

Research shows that a senior engaged in social activities are more apt to take care of themselves as they look forward to meeting back up with their friends at functions.

Seeing a need for a senior program in Colorado County that helps with a senior's well-being, Three Crosses Ministries started a program initiative, along with a few seniors who felt called to help, aptly named Seniors To gether, which brings seniors together to bring a balanced life to individuals.

Seniors Together holds gath erings for those 55 and over in Columbus at The Lighthouse at St. Paul Lutheran Church on the

first and third Wednesdays and in Weimar at the Weimar Civic

Center on the second and fourth

Wednesdays, both from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. There is always coffee,

tea, cookies, games, a free lunch and Bingo at every Seniors To gether gathering.

Plans are in the works for centers in Eagle Lake and Sealy.

The gatherings are free to seniors because of sponsorships and donations from the community and businesses. If you or your business would like to donate, call 979-733-6610. Starting in July, donations may be made on https://www.threecrossesministries. org and to view the comings and goings of all that is Seniors Together.

Three Crosses Ministries President and Executive Director John Jones, background, welcomes everyone to the June 18 celebration for Seniors Together - Columbus, going into its third year. Jones acknowledged its strength in its hardcore volunteer force and it’s all about having fun.
