AC Livestock Association awards scholarships

CAT SPRING - Glen Brandt, president, welcomed approximately 180 persons who attended the recent 75th meeting of the Austin County Livestock Association on June 5 at the Cat Spring Agricultural Society Hall in Cat Spring. The members and guests enjoyed barbecue brisket and pork by Schovajsa Catering.

Each receiving a scholarship of $1000 was Lydia Huebner and Jaylen Tesch of the Bellville FFA Chapter, Ansley Owen of the Sealy FFA Chapter, and Sophia Vykukal of the Brazos FFA Chapter. They will all major in agriculture at a university in Texas.

The association, in collaboration with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension, offered a program providing three hours of CEU credits. Dr. Joe Paschal discussed the danger of new world screwworms coming into Texas. Gary Inglish, owner of Positive Feed, gave a presentation on supplemental tubs for livestock. He covered the cost of the meal for attendees. The directors reelected were Lew Ellen Gross, Herbert Schumann, J.D. McKay and Ricky Huff.
