Columbus Garden Club July Yards of the Month

Columbus Garden Club July Yards of the Month
The Columbus Garden Club July Yard of the Month recipients were Thomas and Gloria Foster at 302 Smith in Columbus. The home is perched on a corner lot fully surrounded with colorful blossoms. Shades of periwinkle, also known as vinca, from white to deep pink dominate several oversized beds around the house. Occasional dark maroon astilbe punctuate the sea of periwinkles. A billowy bed, potted flowers and yard art surround a sitting area on the side of the home. Someone at this home loves flowers!

Columbus Garden Club July Community Beautification recip ient is St. Paul Lutheran Church, 201 Veterans Dr. in Columbus. The church has Muhly grass and oversized clay pots of potato vine flanks a cherry laurel creat ing a symmetric design perfectly designed for the harsh western sun that this side of the building receives. The shadier sides of the building are lushly planted with Nellie R Stevens holly trees, dwarf nandina, mature Ligularia (aka Leopard plants) that should produce tall spikes of clustered daisy-like blooms, and begonias. Flat boulders add a natural appeal and hold small pools of water for wildlife.
