Austin County 4-H Youth have fun exploring food and nutrition project activities

BELLVILLE — Austin County 4-H recently hosted an opportunity to showcase two educational events related to food and nutrition projects in the county.

The summer event was aimed at equipping youth with valuable life skills while encouraging participation in key 4-H projects such as Food Challenge and Food Show.

The hands-on workshop introduced participants to important components of both contests, including food safety, nutrition knowledge, plating, interviewing, and oral presentation skills.

The participants explored My-Plate nutrition guidelines and practiced teamwork in a mock food challenge event.

Most importantly, they gained experience, which is essential for success in the 4-H county competition on Nov. 4 and district competition on Dec. 8 - 9.

The summer program also emphasized community service and project growth to broaden the impact of their efforts.

Several teens, Katelyn Krenek, Darcy Luedke, Jacie Menefee, Makayla Makowski and Emma Krenek, played an essential role in planning and leading the events. They served as mentors and role models for those in attendance.

Through these fun, youth-led summer activities, Austin Coun- ty 4-H continues to foster confi dent, capable leaders committed to health, service, and excellence in their project work.

Participating in the recent Austin County 4-H edcuational events were, front row, from left, Allie Eckert, Waylon Parker, and Hannah Henderson; and, back row, Katelyn Krenek, Jacie Menefee, Emma Krenek, Darcy Luedke, and Makayla Makowski.
