Get your Picasso on!

WEIMAR — The Weimar Public Library is back with another fun communal art project. It is one of the cutest and weirdest trends on the internet and social media. It is a rock snake.

To kick off this year’s summer reading program, the library initiated the building of a rock snake called Roscoe. Roscoe is colorful and quirky and perfectly emulates this year’s summer program theme: Color Our World.

Weimar’s tiny masterpiece greets patrons at the door: “I’m Roscoe the Library Rock Snake.

I’m here to make you smile! Paint a rock, add it to my body, help me grow a mile!” Library patrons have created painted rocks, others have added more to build a serpent of stone, and before you know it, Roscoe was born.

You, too, can join in the community spirit and have fun making Roscoe grow. Find a smooth, flatish rock. Paint it with acrylic paint or outdoor-friendly markers in whatever wild way you want.

Don’t have the materials? Stop by the library and paint your rock onsite.

You can let your imagination go wild. Want your snake to sport a rainbow? Go for it! Want to add some geometric designs? Feel free! Roscoe is all about spreading joy and creating community cohesiveness. Don’t stop there. We didn’t spend all this time creating a rock snake just to let it go unnoticed! Take some snapshots and share the art on Instagram, TikTok, or your Facebook page and put the Weimar Public Library in the spotlight. Tag your location so others can find it and contribute.
