KIRKLAND, Wash. — The Columbus Junior League softball team recently made history and won the entire Junior League Softball World Series title Aug. 2 defeating Illinois 2-0 at Everest Park in Kirkland, Wash.
An accomplishment that will go down in the history books as one of the greatest feats ever for the town of Columbus as it’s such a prestigious event and huge milestone, being televised on ESPN while representing the state of Texas.
The championship series ran from July 27 through Aug. 2 at Everest Park in Kirkland, Wash.
Columbus took down Asia Pa- cific (July 27, 8-3), Indiana (July 29, 13-5), California (July 30, 8-2), Italy (July 31, 16-2), Pennsylvania (Aug. 1, 6-3), and Illinois (Aug. 2, 2-0) to take home the trophy.
A huge milestone not just for the state of Texas, but the fact that it was in our area makes it that much better.
The team, managed by John Henry Post, and coaches Brian Berger and Marcus Melnar, includes Lila Berger, Trinity Hopkins, Chloe Grahmann, Hattie Post, Taityn Mican, Berkley Anderson, Cambry Barten, Paelyn Etzler, Kaylea McCarthy, Braylin Gonzales, Emma Beauchamp, Andie Melnar and Lucy Schobel.
