The Columbus Garden Club August Community Beautification Award was awarded to Columbus Com munity Church at 1503 Bowie St. in Columbus. The beautifully simple Carpenter Gothic style church with its board and batten wood-frame construction featuring pointed arch windows, narrow spire atop a tower, clapboard siding, and steep pitched roof is a masterpiece of 19th-century rural architecture. Periwinkles brighten the church's sign with its service hours, while double red knockout roses flank the sanctuary en trance, welcoming visitors and members weekly. Courtesy photo
