Retirement! What is That!?

Retirement is never a word I associated with myself—or one I ever thought I’d use. And yet, beginning last week, it has run freely across my lips more often than I care to admit! We cannot deny that life is full of transitions, and isn’t retirement simply shifting from doing one thing into doing another?

Although I’ve spent much of my life in the interior, I’ve always loved the water and enjoyed beaches, but not so much the saltwater. Having bought a paddleboard years ago, I’m determined to spend more time on the water than behind a desk. To work on making that a reality, I took a road trip this summer to explore some of Texas’s lake country! It did not disappoint! As I told one person, I was “bit” by a Lake “bug!” Meaning, I was hooked!

.All of this to say: this is my last official week with the Co - lumbus Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber is in excellent hands with Shelley Janik and Justice Alleway, who are the driving force of the organization. They work tirelessly for our members, which benefits the entire com munity. You are very fortunate to have them leading the way!

The last two years have been quite a ride. Thank you to each of you who reached out and made me feel welcome in Columbus. I deeply appreciate every one of you.

A special thank you goes to those who serve—and have served—on the Chamber’s Board of Directors. It is not always an easy task, but your time, dedication, and service are deeply valued.

Looking ahead, the Chamber has an outstanding incoming Board of Directors who will begin on Oct. 1 for the 2025–2026 fiscal year. If you are a member, I encourage you to get to know them.

And don’t forget the Chamber Ambassadors! This energetic group of members acts as a bridge between the Chamber’s board, staff, and membership. They are already planning exciting Mixers and events, so stay tuned. Be sure to check your inbox (and junk folder) for newsletters, and if you’re not receiving them, give the office a call to get added to the list.

Thank you again for the support, kindness, and friendship.
