St. John - Fayetteville prepares for feast

FAYETTEVILLE — St.

John the Baptist Catholic Church in Fayetteville will be holding their annual huge church feast on Sunday, Aug. 31, on the church grounds in Fayetteville.

Come out and attend the Mass with polka music at 10 a.m., held in the Catholic church with Fa- ther Steve Sauser officiating.

Local musicians will be part of the Mass by playing their instruments and singing along with the congregation.

A meal featuring barbecue beef and pork cut into bite-sized pieces and sausage, potatoes, sauerkraut, beans, pickles, and tea will be offered at $15. Serving will begin at 10:30 a.m.

Plates will be available in the drive-thru line or you can park your car and pick up plates-to-go at the hall and take advantage of buying the homemade pastries, kolaches, and looking through the silent auction, live auction, and other booths.

The air-conditioned hall will be open for dining inside as well.

After Mass, music will be provided under the pavilion by local musicians, lasting until auction time. You may dance or just listen to the music.

Beginning at 1:30 p.m., barbecue sandwiches, sausage wraps, and nachos will be available all afternoon.

The country auction, which begins at 1:30 p.m., typically features quilts, antiques, coins, livestock, and much more. Come early to view the many items up for the auction, on display under the pavilion.

Bingo will be played starting at 2 p.m. and lasting until 6 p.m. In addition, there will be a cake wheel, a silent auction, a country store, as well as a variety of kids’ activities.

Local church members will prepare over 200 dozen freshly- baked kolaches of any variety you desire, which will be available for purchase at the parish hall on Saturday, Aug. 30, from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Any kolaches not sold on Saturday, plus homemade pastries, will be available on Sunday.

The feast is known as a homecoming for many graduates and former residents of Fayetteville. Father Steve Sauser, pastor, and St. John the Baptist parishners invite the public to come out for the best meal, the finest enter tainment, and the most fun for the family to take part in the activities offered for all ages.

This year, a portion of the St John the Baptist parish feast funds will be donated to Hospice Brazos Valley.
