Colorado County Sheriff's Office issues new scam alert

Colorado County Sheriff Justin Lindemann has reported that the agency has been receiving multiple reports of scam phone calls to citizens.

Scammers spoof the sheriff’s department number, 979-732-2388, and pretend to be sheriff’s department employees.

The scammers tell citizens that there is a warrant issued for their arrest and demand paying a $3,000 fine over the phone to avoid being arrested.

It seems the scammers try to scam senior citizens.

Lindemann reminds everyone that the sheriff's office will never call you to tell you that you have a warrant, will never ask you to pay money over the phone and if you do receive one of these calls, hang up immediately and call the sheriff's office directly.

No one should give out personal information from unsolicited phone calls.
