WEIMAR - Carlton Tucker was re cently nominated and sworn as Weimar mayor by the Weimar City Council.
Swearing Tucker in was Weimar Municipal Judge Linda Kobersky.
Tucker replaces Milton Koller, who resigned unexpectedly on July 28 and announced his retirement mid-term.
Tucker, no stranger to Weimar politics, has served on the city council in the past. Now, as a retired school administrator, he is a paraprofessional at Weimar Elementary and a school bus driver for Weimar ISD. His heart and soul are em bedded in Weimar, so he has the best interests of the city at heart.
As mayor, Tucker’s goal for Weimar is to maintain the city's “family-friendly, strong cultural values” at its core. He wants to do everything possible to make it a thriving and growing community without sacrificing those immutable traits.
With respect to the Texas Film Corridor (TFC), it should be noted that The Banner Press Newspaper did not report that the city had agreed with TFC, which has Tucker interested to learn more about the TFC and is open to the public’s opinions regarding them locating their film location near Weimar. Tucker sees where it can be an economic boom to Weimar, but in retrospect, potentially challenge the very cultural values he wants for Weimar. His other concerns are the burden it may place on the school system and housing situations. He is researching other locations to see how they affected their populations, but is having a hard time finding towns similar to Weimar to compare them to.
Tucker stated he believes Weimar is a special place and is very protective of everything we hold dear as he helps the city council navigate several issues that are demanding attention at this time.
