CARMINE — The Round Top-Carmine High School volleyball team went down to BVCHEA Homeschool Aug. 26 at Cubs Gym in Carmine in three sets with a final score of 20-25, 21-25, 18-25.

The Cubettes were able to keep it relatively close with BV- CHEA throughout the match, but the Mustangs created just a little more offense in each of the three sets to seal the win.

“I thought we showed glimpses of good things as we have all the games so far this season," said Round Top-Carmine head volleyball coach Catie Weishuhn. “I think our transition looks a little bit lazy right now and were complacent with letting balls hit the ground in front of us and that's gonna have to change if we want to win some games." BVCHEA took a 4-0 lead in the first set with two kills, a ball out of bounds from Round Top, and an ace.

The Cubettes would eventual- ly tie the set at nine with three of the points from the rally coming from sophomore outside hitter Bree Dooley.

The Mustangs would stretch their lead back to 16-11 on a few kills and an ace, then kept that same kind of lead for the remain - der of the set on a bunch of kills and a few mistakes from Round Top to win it 25-20.

The second set was much closer as each team traded punches and the Cubettes even took a lead as big as 18-14, forcing BVCHEA to call a timeout after an ace and a handful of mistakes from the Mustangs.

BVCHEA would climb back and tie it at 19 on a ball out of bounds from Round Top, then controlled the remainder of the set with a few kills and an ace to secure it at 25-21. BVCHEA surged out to a 6-0 lead in the third set on three tip balls, a kill, and two mishits from Round Top.

The Mustangs kept this same kind of lead for the rest of the set on some mistakes from Round Top and mostly kills with a few tip balls and aces mixed in from the Mustangs to win the set and match 25-18.
