WEIMAR — Weimar Interim Police Chief Josh Jones resigned his post with notice after serving in that interim capacity for six months, after the full-time chief left the position vacant. Jones came to the Weimar Police Department with over 10 years of experience.
Jones served as sergeant, lieutenant and then interim police chief. The city is still looking to fill the chief of police posi tion.
Jones released his official statement regarding his resignation from the Weimar Police Department: “To the Citizens of Weimar, City Officials, and Members of the Weimar Police Department, After much reflection and consideration, I have formally announced my resignation from my position with the Weimar Police Department. This decision has not been made lightly, but it is the right step for me at this point in my personal and professional journey.
My decision to leave stems from a desire to pursue new professional opportunities that aligns with my vision and integrity; will allow me to grow in my career and further serve the broader community in a new capacity. While this next chapter brings excitement, it also comes with the bittersweet emotions of leaving a department, city and citizens that I have been proud to serve.
My time at the Weimar Police Department has been marked by a deep sense of purpose, camaraderie and dedication. I’ve been honored to work alongside men and women who embody integrity, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to public safety. The experiences I've gained here have shaped me both as a law enforcement professional and as a person.
Serving in Weimar has been more than a job — it's been a meaningful chapter of my life. From the beginning of my tenure as the patrol sergeant, I’ve had the oppor- tunity to witness firsthand the strength and resilience of this community. I excelled to the rank of lieutenant and in the absence of the chief, I served as the interim chief of police.
Throughout my career, I’ve built lasting relationships with colleagues, city leaders, and most importantly, the residents of Weimar. It has truly been a privilege to be entrusted with the responsibility of helping to protect and serve this city.
As I look ahead, I plan to continue my career in law enforcement with the Fayette County Sheriff's Office, step - ping into a role that will offer new challenges and opportunities. I am committed to advancing the principles of community policing, public trust, and justice wherever my path takes me.
To the citizens of Weimar: thank you for your trust, support, and collaboration over the years. Please know that my departure does not reflect any dissatisfaction with this community. Rather, it is a personal decision aimed at embracing new challenges and continued growth. I have great confi dence in the current direction of the Weimar Police Department and know that you remain in capable hands.
In closing, I leave with a heart full of gratitude. I will always carry with me the lessons, relationships, and memories from my time in Weimar.
With respect and appreciation, Joshua A. Jones, interim chief of police, Weimar Police Department.”
Jones leaves on Sept. 13.
