FLATONIA — The Flatonia High School football team won by a wide margin September 19 at Bulldogs Field by a final score of 42-13 against Three Rivers High School.
A close first half led to Fla tonia creating even more offense in the second half while also holding Three Rivers to a minimal amount of points.
“It was our guys just choosing to be more physical than they were," said first-year Flatonia head football coach Matt Uzzell. “It was big time. If you would’ve told me when I took the job in June that we would go 3-1 in non-district, I would’ve taken that right away. Really proud of where we are. District starts next week. I think we’re in a good spot. We’re gonna compete and we’re gonna give it everything we got.”
Bulldogs running back Adrian Anderson had a huge game with four touchdowns and gave his team the spark it needed throughout the entire game.
“Just run the ball hard and don’t stop, just keep on going,” Anderson said. “Just believe in your team.” Flatonia scored the first and only touchdown of the first quarter after mov - ing the ball up the field with their run game and capitalizing with a two-yard run from Nate Aguillon.
Anderson added his first touchdown on a five yard run at the 4:41 mark in the second quarter, then after an intercep tion from Freddy Manzano about a minute later, Zayden Perez ran up the middle for a 20-yard touchdown with 1:15 to go to make it 21-0.
Three Rivers responded
with a 75-yard touchdown pass on the very first play of their
next drive to close out the half at 21-7 in favor of Flatonia.
The Bulldogs of Three Rivers scored again about midway through the third quarter, this time on a 62-yard quarterback
run and a blocked extra point from Flatonia put it at 21-13.
Flatonia responded with Anderson’s second touchdown as he ran down the Flatonia sideline for 41-yards at the 6:22 mark for the final score of the third quarter.
Anderson scored again on
the first play of the fourth quar ter for two yards, which was followed by Anderson’s fourth and final score with 6:31 to go
for five yards and a 42-13 vic tory as Flatonia’s defense held Three Rivers scoreless for the rest of the game.
