The Faith Academy Knights football team travelled to Westbury Christian (4A) Sept. 16. The Knights got off to a hot start and never looked back. Junior QB Dyllan Olivares continues to stand out, marching the Knights up and down the field. He would finish the contest going 18/24, passing for 283 yards, and 5 TDs. He threw TDs to Brody August (So), Joshua Stark (Sr), Gage Wilson (Sr), and two to Jackson Dunn (Sr). Olivares alluded to pressure all night with his Johnny Manziel-esque escape and hitting open receivers on the run.
“His decision making and defense- reading is getting better every week”, said Head Coach Trey Carter. “We knew he’s normally the smartest player on the field, but his ability to get loose, keep his eyes downfield, and throw a strike has been impressive to watch. His offensive line is also blocking their tails off as well.”
Center Riley Heyman (Jr.) anchors the O-line, making all the checks and blocking scheme calls. All-State Tight End Wyatt Davis (Jr.), who has proved to be one of the best blockers in the state, is on one side, and August is on the other. They gave Olivares a ton of time against a defensive line of Westbury, who outweighed them by an average of 80 lbs.
“Those were some big, strong, tough kids, across the line from our guys. But our guys never backed down. We were able to back them up with Dyllan throwing some quick throws. That got them on their heels, and then we were able to control the clock by running the ball effectively. Josh Stark ended the contest with 7 catches for 135 yards and a TD, on a 47-yard bomb from Olivares. His counterpart, Jackson Dunn, finished the contest with 4 catches for 58 yards and 2 TD. What’s impressive about these two is that they have double- duty, serving as the running backs as well. Carter says, “It’s nice to have two guys like that, that you can put at either spot.”
Stark would add on 39 yards rushing as well as a TD, and Dunn would add 73 yards on 6 carries and a TD.
Defensively, the Knights would start shaky, not able to get off the blocks from the huge offensive line of Westbury, but would battle and start flying around, making plays, and causing turnovers. Leading the Knights would be Davis with 14 tackles. Right behind him was Michael Satterwhite (So) with 11.5, including one huge tackle-for-loss (TFL) on a big 4th down play. Also with 10.5 tackles was Kelton Galle (Jr). He plays inside and has to fight off blocks to make some great tackles. August and Wilson would also add 2 TDs on the Kickoff Return team. Wilson’s return was 48 yards, and August’s return was from 56 yards. The Knights would win the contest 72-60.
This week, the Knights will take on Waco Valor Prep on Friday in Waco. This was the record- setting game from 1 year ago, where the Faith Academy Knights set the All-Time TX High School Football scoring record, winning the contest 148-112.
