FLATONIA — The Flatonia High School football team picked up a big win Oct. 10 at Bulldogs Field in Flatonia vs Danbury High School by a final score of 32-12.

Flatonia looked solid on both sides of the ball and did just enough to win the game by a comfortable margin for all four quarters.

“When you motivate kids out of love and they start to see they can trust you and they can trust each other, it’s crazy what can happen,” said Flatonia head coach Matt Uzzell.

“These kids have bought into us and we’re coaching them hard. I’m not soft on them by any stretch. They know I care about them. They know the rest of the coaches care about them and that’s what we’re here for. That’s what we’re trying to accomplish. I treat them like they were my own son and that means I’m gonna hold you to a different standard than other people. I think that has a lot to do with it and these kids have started to believe in themselves. They have the ability. I’m just proud of them for turning that corner.”

Flatonia running back Caysen Perez had a big night finding the end zone and picking up big yards in order to help his team get the victory.

“It was a team effort,” Perez said. “It was all thanks to my blockers and people that I had to follow.” Danbury struck first and scored at the 9:38 mark in the first

quarter with a quarter- back run for five yards and took a 6-0 lead after a failed two-point conversion.

The Bulldogs answered a few minutes later with a running touchdown of their own as quarterback Jaylon Anderson scrambled and ran down the Danbury sideline to make it 7-6 for the final points of the first quarter.

Danbury took the lead right back at the beginning of the second quarter with a deep pass for about 50 yards and made it 12-7 after another failed two point conversion.

Perez then took a counter play for Flatonia about a minute later to regain the lead at 15-12 with a 61-yard run as he cut it back up the middle before a converted twopoint conversion for the Bulldogs.

Perez added another touchdown in the final minutes of the quarter for 30 yards and a 2212 lead at halftime. The Bulldogs went on to kick a field goal, which was kicked by Jose Garcia for 35 yards to make it 25-12 about midway through the third quarter. Flatonia held their own on defense for the entire fourth quarter and Perez went in for his third touchdown of the night with a 40yard run at the 1:50 mark
