The Austin County Retired Teachers Association held its first meeting of the school year at the Sens Center in Bellville on Sept. 1.
Following a potluck meal, President Janet Montgomery presided over the business meeting. The program was given by Dora Ann Gostecnik of the Gostecnik Law Firm in Pattison. She gave members considerable pertinent information, particularly for retirees, and she then held a question-and-answer session.
On Oct. 8, five ACRTA members attended the Texas Retired Teachers Association District 6 Conference at the Region 6 Education Service Center in Huntsville. District 6 President Danny Stribling, led the meeting. The guest speaker was Dr. Frank Ashley, whose program was entitled 'Educators Leave a Legacy.' Following lunch, reports were given, and of- ficers were elected for the next biennium. A memorial service was held to honor those educators in District 6 who had lost their lives in the past year.
The next ACRTA meeting will be held on Thursday, Nov. 13 at the Wallis Columbus Club Hall at 703 Columbus Rd. in Wallis, beginning at noon with a box lunch. A lunch may be ordered by emailing Austincountyrta@ gmail.com by Monday, Nov. 3. Colorado Valley Transit will present the program.
