Residents are encouraged to register now to secure their spot in this free, four-week program. The workshop begins Monday, Oct. 27 and will continue on Monday, Nov.
10, Monday, Nov. 24, and Monday, Dec. 8, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Schulenburg Public Library in Schulenburg.
'We've been thrilled by the enthusiastic response from our community,' said Janis Richardson, co-president of the League of Women Voters of South Central Texas. 'With just a handful of seats left, we encourage anyone interested in telling our community's stories to sign up now before registration closes.'
The workshop is open to all residents of the league's five-county service area, which includes Colorado, DeWitt, Fayette, Gonzales, and Lavaca counties. No prior writing experience is necessary. However, attendance at all four sessions is expected to ensure partic- ipants gain the full benefit of the hands-on training and professional feedback offered throughout the course.
This initiative is part of the League's Local News and Democracy project, which recognizes the vital role local journalism plays in fostering community connection and promoting democratic participation.
Participants will learn practical skills for contributing meaningful stories to local newspapers as volunteer community journalists, complementing the excellent work already being done by our community newspapers.
League member Elota Patton will serve as lead instructor, with Richardson facilitating. The course will feature special guest journalists and educators from South Central Texas.
