SCHULENBURG — The Schulenburg High School football team pro- tected home field on home -

coming night vs Bloomington High School and won in

blowout fashion by a final score of 41-0 Oct. 24 at

Shorthorns Field.

Schulenburg was pretty much perfect on both sides of the ball and it showed with how this game progressed and eventually ended in a blowout.

"You wanna go 1-0 any time you’re playing at home," said first-year Schulenburg head football coach Clay Ferguson. “We gotta go win these last two in order to secure our spot in the playoffs. Coaches threw a great game plan to- gether offensively. Our kids did a great job this week.”

Shorthorns senior wide receiver Jayse Janda had a 92-yard touchdown catch in this game and was effective for his team on the both sides of the ball as a defensive back as well. Janda was also named homecoming king.

"Overall, it was great," Janda said on his big night.

“Ultimately, I’m just glad we got a win and got a shutout. I feel like we all played as a team.”

Schulenburg had a 14-0 lead at the end of the first

quarter on a quarterback run

for five yards from junior Owen Brenek and Janda's

92 yarder.

The Shorthorns kept the momentum going in the second quarter by scoring early on a two-yard touchdown catch from Jayvan Luhrs in the first 14 seconds of the quarter, then sophomore wide receiver Denver Carr caught a six-yard touchdown a few minutes later.

This was followed by a 20-yard score from junior Mason Kunschick to take a 33-0 lead at halftime. Bloomington really didn’t get much of anything going on offense throughout the entire game and after each team went scoreless in the third quarter, senior running back Da’Terrion Houston scored a 45-yard touchdown with 8:03 to go in the fourth quarter for the final score of the game and added a two-point conver- sion to seal the win at 41-0.
