Poll Workers: The Heart of Our Democracy

At a time when civic engagement is more vital than ever, Kimberly Kunz Calderon is proving that leadership knows no age. As one of Colorado County's youngest election officials, Calderon answered the call when her home precinct- Precinct 103 in Garwood/ Nada-needed a presiding judge. Her unwavering com mitment has ensured that her community continues to have a voice at the ballot box.

Calderon understands that maintaining a polling location in a rural area requires more than dedica- tion-it demands teamwork. With the 2025 Constitution -

al Amendment election ap -

proaching, she is calling on fellow residents to step for -

ward and serve as election clerks to help uphold the in - tegrity and efficiency of the voting process.

This year's ballot fea - tures 17 proposed amend ments to the Texas Con- stitution, making it one of the most consequential odd-year elections in recent history. Rural communities like Garwood/Nada often face lower voter turnout and a shortage of volunteers during these cycles.

Due to logistical constraints and limited resourc- es, polling locations will be consolidated for the 2025 election. As a result, voters from Garwood/Nada will cast their ballots at the Rice Consolidated Administra- tion Office in Altair. Community members who are interested in vol unteering or learning more about the election process are encouraged to contact the Colorado County Elec -

tion Office or reach out to Caldron to to serve in Pre - cinct 103 during future elec -

tions.
