WALLIS — The Brazos High School volleyball team defeated Danbury High School in four sets Oct. 28 at Cougars Gym by a final score of 23-25, 25-18, 25-14, 25-19.

Brazos did just enough ear ly in the game and had a huge fourth set in order to grasp a heard-earned victory.

“Just having the energy and using that to push our way forward,” said Brazos head vol leyball coach Amanda Hatton on messages she told her team throughout the match. “As long as we are using all three of our hitters, we’ve been able to stay in those close matches, which in the beginning of the season we struggled with, so that’s been a plus for us.”

Brazos junior outside hitter McKenna Stroud had a huge fourth set racking up kills and also recorded her 500th career kill while doing it.

“It’s unbelievable honestly,” Stroud said on the achievement

“It’s been a big accomplish ment. I’m so happy to do this for my team and just play for them. It’s not an easy thing to do, so being able to do it with this team really means a lot to me and hav ing their support through it all.”

After falling in the first set, Brazos bounced back and won the second set by a decent mar gin, then really kicked things into gear in the third set with an even bigger margin of victory in dou ble digits.

The fourth set was pretty even early, then an ace by Stroud put it at 11-6 and forced Danbury to call a timeout. A kill from Cou garettes freshman middle hitter Bayleigh Marek made it 14-9, which was followed by an ace from senior libero Kendall Macha that forced Danbury to call an other timeout. Another kill from Stroud extended the Brazos lead to 20-11 and Danbury started to go on a little run afterwards with seven consecutive points.

Brazos was able to close out the match with a tip ball from ju nior setter Blair Warren, a mishit from the Lady Panthers, and two kills in a row from Brazos to win the set and match 25-19.
