BELLVILLE — The Faith Academy Knights had their last district game on Friday at SAB Stadium, hosting the 2nd Baptist Eagles. Both teams were guaranteed playoff spots in the TAPPS Playoffs, and this game would determine the seeding for District 5.
The Knights came out on fire defensively, and never let their foot off the gas. They would hold the Eagles to just 42 yards of total offense. The Knights were favored in the contest by 23.
They came out swinging, showing their best defensive game under my sixth-year as head coach.
“The coaches and myself have never seen a Knight defense flying around like they did this evening. They are peaking at the right time. With playoffs starting next week, this is the kind of showing that is going to carry us to where we want to go.”
Faith would end the contest at halftime, with a score of 56-7.
The Knights’ defense was led by senior Gage Wilson and junior Wyatt Davis. Each one of them would have 9 tackles in the contest. Wilson would have 4 of those for TFL (tackle for loss), and Davis would add 3 of the same. Wilson would also have a 12-yard interception returned for a Knight TD. Senior Josh Stark also added an interception returned for a TD from 64 yards. Other defenders making plays would include juniors Jackson Graham and Kelton Galle, sophomores Anthony Best and Garrett Lloyd, and senior Jackson Dunn.
Offensively, the Knights only ran 13 plays in the short contest, scoring on 6 of those plays. Davis would have 2: a reception from junior QB Dyllan Olivares 46 yards out, as well as a run from 9 yards out. Dunn added 2 TDs as well on the ground, from 36 yards and 17 yards. Sophomore Brody August would add his 9th TD of the season, on an inside handoff from Olivares.
The Knights were able to move the ball with ease, thanks to the offensive lineman, junior center Riley Heyman, as well as Davis (TE) and August.
The Knights will begin their playoff run this week, taking on Divine Savior Academy out of Missouri City. The contest will be played at Tomball Rosehill Christian on Friday at 7 p.m.
Come out and support the Knights as they look to make a deep run.
