MANOR — The Columbus High School football team defeated Troy High School in a playoff matchup Nov. 13 at Manor ISD by a final score of 48-0.
After a low scoring first half, Columbus re ally had the offense going in the second half en route to a win in blowout fashion.
"We have to figure out a way to come out and play from the very beginning," said Colum bus head football coach Matt Schobel.
“That’s been one of the things we struggled with this year is coming out and hitting and running. We’re kind of easing into games. Can’t do that. Can’t do that as we go, but I thought our defense played phenomenal. I thought our kids played hard. We gotta find a way to get a spark a little quicker offensively. I’m proud of the kids. A win’s a win. We have another week to make corrections and give it another go next week."
Cardinals running back Brennan Hicks had a huge game with 86 yards and two touch- downs on five carries. "It's really fun, you know," Hicks said. "It's really fun playing with my teammates and all that. Getting a dub. It’s really good for us." After a scoreless first quarter, Columbus took
a 6-0 lead going into halftime with Hicks' first touchdown on a run at the 7:41 mark in the second quarter.
The Cardinals then went on a tear for the rest of the game and scored 28 points in the third quarter on a touchdown run from quarterback Jack Schobel, a 40-yard touchdown catch by Doc Cantu, a run up the mid dle for 15-20 yards by Cantu, and Hicks' second touchdown with 4:34 to go in the quarter to take a 34-0 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
