ROCKDALE — The Sealy High School football team put a beat down on Gatesville High School in a playoff bout Nov. 14 at Rockdale ISD and won by a final score of 37-6.
Sealy took a reasonable lead at halftime and then didn’t allow a single point for the rest of the game while showcasing their high-powered offense.
“We just made a few ad - justments and the kids are really great at listening to us at halftime,” said Sealy head football coach Clint Finley.
“Going out, executing, doing the things we need to do. They’re just real ly coachable and they’re a special group of boys. Hopefully it’s gonna carry us through.”
Tigers senior wide re - ceiver AJ Cepon had a stel lar game with 3 receptions for 60 yards and two big touchdowns.
“It starts in practice,” Cepon said on the team’s success. “Everything starts in practice. You gotta be on the same page with your guys Monday through Thursday. Friday is when you come out and show the people that you’re all on the same page.”
Sealy scored the only points of the first quarter on Cepon's first touchdown for 40 yards on a go route down the middle to make it 7-0.
Gatesville responded late
in the second quarter with a quarterback sneak at the goal line after a nice drive and a blocked extra point by Sealy’s Brandon Bur ditt made it 9-6 in favor of Sealy after he recovered the ball and took it all the way to the end zone.
Tigers senior quarter- back Kane Killough then took a quarterback run up the middle for 15 yards and
a score with 1:07 to go to take a 16-6 lead at halftime.
Killough took another 15-yarder for a touchdown at the 5:39 mark in the third quarter to make it 23-6 for the only points of the quar- ter, which was followed by
Cepon’s second touchdown catch for 10 yards as well as a touchdown catch up the middle by Jackson Sod olak in the fourth quarter to cruise to a 37-6 victory.
