PORTER — The Sealy High School football team’s great season came to an end Nov. 28 as they were defeated by West Orange-Stark High School in a game that went to overtime with a final score of 35-28.
This was a game that was back and forth throughout it’s entirety and West Orange- Stark was able to make a defensive stand on Sealy’s final possession to win it in overtime. “I thought our kids re- sponded really well," said Sealy head football coach Clint Finley.
"They played all the way through the very end and they played very hard. Unfortu -
nately, we came up one play short."
West Orange-Stark had a
7-0 lead at the end of the first quarter on a five-yard run with
6:50 to go. Sealy answered
back on the first play of the second quarter with a five- yard touchdown run of their own from senior Javien Grant. Stark regained the lead in the last minute and a half for a 15yard touchdown to take a 14-7 lead at halftime.
After a fumble recovery by Sealy's AJ Capon midway through the third quarter, the Tigers capitalized about two minutes later as senior wide receiver Elijah Sanders caught a pass across the middle on a fourth down and eight conversion for about 20 yards to tie it at 14.
The score would remained tied at the end of the third quar- ter, which led to a quarterback run up the middle for 25 yards from Stark to make it 21-14 at the 9:32 mark in the fourth quarter. Sealy then had backto- back quarterback runs for touchdowns from senior Kane Killough to take a 28-21 advantage.
Stark would tie it at 28 on a
touchdown pass at the 49 sec ond mark to force overtime.
Stark started with the ball and took a big run down the sideline, then finished the drive with a short run to make it 3528.
Sealy scored on their next possession on a reverse screen pass play on fourth and three,
but it was called back due to an illegal receiver down field to result in a win for Stark at 35-28.
