DRT Chapter hosts local forensic sculptor

COLUMBUS — During the Nov. 18 meeting, Amanda Danning, a local forensic sculptor, enlightened the Dilue Rose Harris Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas (DRT) about her role in sculpting and giving a face to history. She presented a fascinating look into the French explorer LaSalle and his crew and their excursion into Texas.

Danning was part of reconstructing the faces on two of the crew members of LaSalle and the excavation of his ship LaBelle that sank in the mouth of the Colorado in 1686. She explained how, using the skull and knowledge of muscle structure, she is able to identify facial structures. Her work truly does bring history to life and has been documented in several books.

All members were thoroughly captivated by the insights into LaSalle’s expedition and the LaBelle.
