BELLVILLE — The Extension Education Association, a direct part of the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, recently hosted an educational program titled “Well Families,” presented by Gaye Farr of the West End EEA Club. The session’s objectives were to discuss the importance of health, effectively engage and communicate with family members, and identify resources to meet the needs of grandparents and their families.
Throughout the program, participants explored the differences between congruent parenting and co-participation parenting and discussed the importance of setting limits and boundaries to establish healthier behaviors. The group also reviewed the four parenting styles: authoritarian, authoritative, permissive, and uninvolved. The group also considered how each style influences the family's overall health
and dynamics.
The presentation em- phasized the significant role grandparents play in shaping the well-being of their families.
As of 2021, statistics show that more than 266,000 grandparents in Texas were acting as caregivers for their grandchildren, and that number continues to rise each year.
