Weimar Police Chief Socha resigns

WEIMAR - The City of Wei mar sent out a press release stating that Weimar Police Chief David Socha has resigned his position.

The release stated: "The City of Weimar would like to share that Chief David Socha has resigned from his position as Chief of Police for the Weimar Police Department.

In his farewell letter, Chief So- cha stated, "I want to say thank you to the City Manager, the Mayor, and the City Council for their support.”

On behalf of the City of Weimar, we would like to recognize Chief Socha for his dedication to the safety of our community. His enthusiasm, energy, and positive outlook - especially regarding plans for the Weimar Police Department - were unmatched, and we thank him for his service.

The Interim City Manager and Mayor have appointed Sergeant Investigator John Kelly as Interim Chief of Police while the position is being filled. With Sgt. Kelly’s leadership, along with the continued support of Sheriff Lindemann and the Colorado County Sheriff's Office, we are confident the department remains in capable and steady hands. We remain optimistic about the future of our town and look forward to continued positive progress for the Weimar community.”

With the loss of Socha and several other officers who recent ly resigned and took positions elsewhere, the Colorado County Commissioner’s Court had met in special session on Dec. 4 to okay a request from the City of Weimar for a Colorado County Sheriff’s Deputy to help provide needed law enforcement to Weimar.

The sheriff's office will use off-duty deputies and will be reimbursed the costs associated with filling shifts in the city of Weimar.

Using off-duty deputies will not diminish the patrol effectiveness of on-duty deputies to cover the county.
