Charles Shulz, a devout Christian and creator of the Peanuts comic strip, produced the 1965 “A Charlie Brown Christmas” and put in what Christmas is all about. Although the television executives were too worried to show the special, they relented. One of the hidden messages in the film is that Linus, who has insecurities and carries a security blanket with him at all times and never drops his blanket for any reason. Not once but twice, Linus drops his blanket to show faith and put his trust in God While Linus is sharing “what Christmas is all about,” Linus drops his blanket at the exact moment he says the words of the Lord, “fear not!” for Jesus is born. Material things, such as a security blanket, are not needed when we have God with us. Linus picks up his blanket after sharing this message. However, when Charlie Brown chose a wooden tree with just a few straggly branches, Linus used his blanket to wrap about the base of the tree and said, “Maybe it just needs a little love.” The tree awakens and stands tall and firm, a re minder that no matter who we are, how many mistakes we have made, a little love can make all the difference in the world.
