BELLVILLE — The Bellville High School girl’s soccer team dominated Jan, 6 at Brahmas Field in Bellville and defeated Cameron High School by a final score of 7-2.
A bunch of scoring in the first half from Bellville led to them coasting in the second half while keeping their defense intact in order to secure the win.
“It’s a rebuilding year for us,” said Bellville head girl’s soccer coach Catherine Landua.
“We’re trying different girls in different positions. We pretty much kind of got it figured out. We're still working on our depth, but I feel like as far as our scoring, we were able to spread out, have good passes, and send the ball through to the forwards. In the second half, we were really just working on our passing in general. They got more experience this game, so we’ll take that and move forward.”
Bellville’s Miriam Orduna scored an early goal in the first half to help get things going for the Brahmanettes.
“Just getting through balls and talking,” Orduna said on the team’s success in the first half. "Staying wide and staying open to make smart, connected passes.”
The Brahmanettes scored their first goal at the 28:50 mark in the first half, which was followed by Orduna’s goal about 40 seconds later to make it 2-0 as she drove down the right side of the field and was able to put it in the net.
Bellville then scored two more goals within two minutes of each other at the 20:25 mark and the 18:32 mark. Cameron would respond with a goal with 11:51 to go in the first half, but Bellville kept pouring it on and scored two more goals within two minutes of each other once again at the eight minute mark as well as the six minute mark and had a 6-1 lead at halftime.
Bellville put a shot on goal that was just wide left in the first minute of the second half, then was able to find the net with 25:30 to go to add to their big lead at 7-1.
The Brahmanettes were able to put two more shots on goal in a row about 10 minutes later on a free kick that was stopped by the wall made by Cameron at their goal.
Cameron was able to put a shot on goal at the 11:26 mark that was easily stopped, which led to a long goal on a kick out of bounds with 8:29 to go to make it 7-2.
Bellville cruised for the rest of the game with their big lead and enjoyed a 7-2 victory.
